Atranorin, a depside compound common in lichens and occasionally found in mosses and higher plants, exhibits a range of biological activities. It is known for its anti-inflammatory, analgesic, wound healing, antibacterial, antifungal, cytotoxic, antioxidant, antiviral, and immunomodulatory effects. Atranorin has also demonstrated significant antinociceptive and anti-inflammatory properties, with redox-active capabilities that can act as either a pro-oxidant or antioxidant depending on the radical context. Moreover, it provides cytoprotective effects against oxidative stress induced by hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). Importantly, atranorin has shown no toxicity in animal in vivo assays.
